With the release of Shovel Knight: King of Cards in 2019, the initial series of Shovel Knight games came to an end. Looking back, Shovel of Hope, Plague of Shadows, Spectre of Torment and King of Cards can confidently stand among the very best 2D platformers of all time. While it tends to be the exceptional level design and inventive mechanics of the games that are highlighted, it shouldn’t be overlooked what an excellent job Yacht Club Games have done filling their games with charming characters.
